How does the identification work?
Akindi is designed for your to upload your existing test question word document (.docx) without needing to customize the formatting.
The key things Akindi looks for, are:
Questions numbered
Multiple choice answer options lettered
The correct answer indicated with bold, highlighting, or an asterisk (*)
Questions should:
Begin with a number (1, 2, 3, etc.) and be followed by either a period '1.' or a parenthesis '1)'
Answer options should:
Begin with a letter (A, B, C, etc.) and be followed by either a period 'a.' or a parenthesis 'a)'
Both uppercase or lowercase letters (eg. 'a.' or 'A.') are accepted.
Question type identification
Multiple Choice Questions
Akindi detects multiple choice questions by looking for:
a numbered question
With lettered answer options
The answer key can be indicated by:
Bolding the correct answer
Add an asterisk (*) next to the correct answer
Highlight the correct answer.
Written Answer Questions
Akindi identifies written answer questions by:
A numbered question
No listed answer options
Fill-in-the-blank Questions
Akindi identifies fill-in-the-blank (FITB) questions by:
A numbered question
No listed answer options
The question contains a blank (_________)
Matching Questions
Akindi identifies matching questions by looking for:
The wording "Match the..." followed by
Two columns of text with:
The left-column being a numbered list (will be identified as questions)
The right-column being a lettered list (will be identified as answer options)
š” At the moment, it isn't possible for Akindi to detect answer keys for matching questions. The answer key will have to be set after being uploaded to Akindi.
Question and Answer Elements
Images
Images included in your word document in (questions, answers, or question groups) will be automatically identified and uploaded to Akindi. No additional formatting is required.

In the rare event that an image fails to be imported from the word document, images can be added added directly to Akindi. Learn more here.
Tables
Tables included in your word document (questions, or question groups) will be automatically identified and uploaded to Akindi. No additional formatting is required.
Equations
LaTeX and MathML included in your word document (questions, answers, or question groups) will be automatically identified and uploaded to Akindi. No additional formatting is required.

Question Group Identification
Akindi will automatically identify question groups in your word document by looking wording similar to "Use the [image/table/ information] below to answer the following X questions."
Akindi will use the number of questions listed in the preamble to know how many questions are part of the question group.
š” Avoid mentioning specific question numbers in the question group preamble, if you plan to scramble the questions, as the location of the question will change from one version to the next.
For example:
ā "Use the image to answer Questions 2-5."
ā Use the image to answer the following 3 questions."
