Add Subheaders to an Assessment in Akindi

How to add subheaders to divide your assessment into labeled sections, add section-specific instructions, and organize questions by chapter or topic. Also covers section headers and sub-headings.

What are Subheaders?

Subheaders let you divide a long assessment into clearly labeled sections (eg. by chapter, topic, or question type).

Each subheader includes a dedicated instructions space, to add guidance specific to that section.

Adding a Subheader

1. Click the '+' icon next to the question where you want the subheader to appear.

2. Select 'Subheading' from the menu.

3. A placeholder title will be added.

4. Type the desired subheader title.

5. Add any desired instructions under the subheader title.
Instructions are optional and can be left blank.

💡 Subheaders aren't detected automatically
At the moment, Akindi will not automatically identify subheaders from your word document.

Subheaders will have to be added direcly in Akindi after importing.

How Subheaders Scramble

Subheaders always stay fixed in their position in the assessment.

When 'Scramble Questions' is enabled, only the questions within a subheader are randomized amongst themselves — the subheader itself, its title, and its instructions never move.

💡 This is different from Question Groups, which can move position across versions unless pinned. If you need to keep multiple questions together because they share an image, table, or passage — not just a section label — see Question Groups in Akindi.
