Advanced marking options allow instructors to customized the weight and marking scheme of each question and answer and create Bonus Questions.

    3. Make the desired change. The changes will automatically be saved and any test sheets that have been uploaded to the assessment will be automatically regraded.

    Question Weight

    What is Question Weight?

Question weight is the number of marks that the student can be earn for answering the question correctly. By default, the question weight is set to one (1).

A question can be worth multiple marks, partial marks, or zero marks.

A question worth zero (0) marks will still be included in the results analysis, but will not affect a student’s mark/grade. This can be useful for survey questions, or to “remove” a question from a test.

    Setting Question Weight

    1. Click on the slider icon next to the desired question

    2. Type the number of points for this question into the text box

Grading Scheme

Grading scheme is how Akindi grades the questions and awards marks to the student.

Akindi offers three grading schemes to customize how the students will be graded:

  • Exact Mark

  • Partial Mark

  • Either Or

Grading Scheme

Description

Common Use Cases

Exact Mark

Akindi's default grading scheme

The students will have to select all of the correct response(s) in order to be awarded full marks.

- Single-select questions

- Multi-select questions

Partial Mark

The students will be awarded a partial mark for each correct response, up to the full weight of the question.

- Select-all-that-apply questions

Either Or

The students will be awarded full marks for selecting any of the correct responses.

- Multi-select questions

- Boosting the class average

Exact mark

Exact Mark is Akindi's default marking scheme.

With the Exact Mark grading scheme, the student’s response must exactly match the instructor's answer key in order to be awarded full credit on the question.

For Example, If the answer is AD, the student will only be awarded a mark for selecting both A and C. If the student selects only A or only D, the student will be given a mark of zero.

Partial Mark

The student is awarded partial marks for each correct response up to the full weight of the question.

If you select 'Deduct incorrect answers', Akindi will award students a partial mark for each correct response and deduct a partial for each incorrect response. Akindi will not allow the question score to go below zero.

Either Or

A student will receive full marks for selecting any of the valid responses.

For example, if the Answer is A or D, the student will receive full marks for selecting A or D or AD, but will receive a score of zero for answering any incorrect answers.

Creating Bonus Question

What is a Bonus question?

A 'bonus' question is a question in which the student will still be awarded for answering the question correctly but the question will not be counted towards the total marks of the assessment.

With 'bonus' questions, students could score over 100% on the assessment.

To create a bonus question in Akindi, select the 'Bonus' toggle.

Example of how a bonus question will affect students' grades.

Student's mark without 'bonus' question

Student's mark with 'bonus' question

Student #2

Student #3
