Getting Started with Docx to QTI Converter

Everything you need to know to convert test question word documents to QTI.

Welcome to Akindi!

This guide will walk you through how to use Akindi Importer to convert a Word Document (.docx) to a QTI file to be imported into your Learning Management System quiz tool.

1. Access Akindi Importer

a) Log into your Learning Management System, select a course, and click 'Launch Akindi'.

b) Click 'Launch Importer'.

πŸ’‘ Akindi Importer is a separate tool from Akindi Assessments with a separate license. Some schools may not have access to Akindi Importer.


2. Format Test Question Word Document

Akindi Importer is designed so you can upload your existing test question document, without having to edit or reformat it.

Akindi Importer uses natural language processing to understand the content of the question in order to identify a wide variety of question types in a variety of formats.

Below are high-level formatting tips:

  • Questions should be numbered (1, 2, 3, etc...)

  • Answer options should be on separate lines and be lettered (a, b, c, etc...)

  • Answer Key can be indicated using Boldface, italics, *asterisk, highlight, or outlined below the question (eg. 'Answer: A')

  • Images can be in .png or .jpg format

  • Tables and equations are fully supported in Akindi

  • Matching questions should start with 'Match the...'

3. Upload Word Document to Akindi Importer

a) Click 'Upload Questions' and select the .docx file containing your test questions.

b) Once the file is selected, Akindi will begin processing the word document. This could take a few minutes to process.


4. Review and Edit Questions

a) Edit questions, tables, or equations by clicking into text boxes and making desired change.

c) Edit Answer key by selecting the grey answer option or clicking into answer text box.


5. Export QTI file from Akindi

a) Click 'Download QTI' dropdown menu and select your Learning Management System. Akindi will provide a .zip file (QTI) that can be imported to your LMS quiz tool.


6. Import QTI file to LMS Quiz Tool

Select your Learning Management System below for specific instructions on how to import the QTI file into your quiz tool.
