What are Matching Questions?

Matching questions allow you to assess students' ability to correctly pair items from two related lists. In a matching question, students must draw connections between items in a "question" column and corresponding items in an "answer" column.

This question type is ideal for testing relationships, definitions, classifications, or associations between concepts.

In Akindi, matching questions consist of:

  • Preamble:

    • Content displayed above question and answer columns.

    • Can be used for instructions to the student (eg. 'Match the terms to their definitions') or information the student will use to answer the question (eg. 'Use the image below and connect ...')

  • Questions:

    • The items in the left column that students need to match (eg. terms, concepts, images)

    • Each question can have one or more correct answers.

  • Answer options:

    • The items in the right column that can be matched to questions (eg. definitions, categories, examples)

    • Answer options can be used once, multiple times, or not at all, depending on how you configure the question.

Matching Questions During Scrambling

When 'Scramble Questions' toggle is enabled, the left-column of questions will be scrambled amongst themselves.

When 'Scramble Answers' toggle is enabled, the right-column of answers will be scrambled amongst themselves.

Akindi will map the answer key across versions, grade students according to their selected version, and unscramble the results to the original order

How do students input their answers for matching questions?

For each question, the students will bubble their answer(s) on the Akindi bubble sheet.

  • Students will see the question number (10, 11, 12, etc.) on their question sheet.

  • They will locate the corresponding question number on their Akindi bubble sheet.

  • They will fill the bubble(s) corresponding with their selected answer.

For example, if the student believes that Question 10 matches with answer B, they will fill the 'B' bubble on Question 10 of their bubble sheet.

When a question has multiple correct answer options, the students must fill all the bubbles that correspond to the correct answers.

For example, if the student believes that Question 10 matches with answer B and C, they will fill the 'B' and 'C' bubble on Question 10 of their bubble sheet.

Grading Matching Questions

Akindi will automatically grade the student's bubbled response against the corresponding answer key.

If questions and/or answers were scrambled, Akindi will automatically unscramble the results back to the original order. You will see results organized by the original question numbers.
