The following guide will cover the four main ways to create an answer key for in person or paper assessments, using the advanced marking options, and how to edit your answer key.

You'll be prompted to enter your answer key on the second step in the assessment process. However, you can always choose to ‘skip for now' and come back to this step later, if you'd prefer to print out your bubble sheets immediately.

There are four main ways to create an answer key:

You can create your answer key by selecting the correct answer for each question:

Click on the 'Copy & Paste Answer Key' button.

Here you can paste or enter the correct answers for your assessment into the text box.

The answers can be listed all on one line, and separated by spaces,

or separated by commas,

You can also list the answers one per line:

and include question numbers:

Once the answers have been saved, you can then update any of the answers or turn on advanced marking options. 

If you like the traditional method of bubbling in a blank bubble sheet and scanning it in with the student responses, we've got you covered. 

Fill in a blank bubble sheet with the correct answers, bubble in the student number as ‘0000’, and scan it in with the rest of the completed tests. You'll be able to change the key or turn on advanced marking after uploading the answer key. 

If your test has multiple versions, you will have to create an answer key for each version. Select the version using the drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner and create the answer key using any of the above methods. 

Advanced marking options allows you to control the weight and marking scheme of each question and answer. 

You can control the weight - point value - of each question by assigning a weight of zero, a partial mark (e.g. 0.25, 0.5, etc…) or multiple marks (e.g. 2, 5, etc…).

A question with the weight of zero will not affect a student’s mark, but it will be included in the results analysis. This can be useful for survey questions, or to “remove” a question from a test.

Exact Mark options means the student’s response must exactly match the instructor's answer key. 

For example, if the answer is AC, the student will only be awarded a mark for selecting both A and C. If the students selects only A or only C, the student will be given a mark of zero.

(This is normally used for single choice answers, even though the other grading schemes would too suffice.)

A student will receive full marks for selecting any of the valid responses.

For example, if the Answer is A or C, the student will receive full marks for selecting A or C or AC, but will receive a score of zero for answering any incorrect answers. 

The student is awarded partial marks for each correct response up to the full weight of the question, but will receive a score of zero if they fill in more bubbles than there are correct answers.

For example, if the correct response is AC, the student will receive partial marks for answering A or C and will receive full marks for answering AC, but will receive a score of zero if they answer ACD. 

If you select the 'Deduct Incorrect Answers' checkbox, students will receive partial marks for correct responses, and will deduct partial marks for incorrect responses. Akindi will stop deducting marks at zero. 

Bonus Question
You can create a Bonus Question in Akindi by turning on 'Advanced Marking' options and selecting the 'Bonus Mark' checkbox. 

Made a mistake on your answer key? No problem! You can edit your answer key and the responses will be re-graded. 

Click ‘Edit Answer Key’ on your course dashboard. You can then change a single answer, upload a new answer key, or new questions.

You can also edit your answer key when analyzing the results. In the ‘Responses’ tab, click on the answer you would like to change. A small window will open which will allow you to change the answer or edit the weight and grading scheme.
