Pinning a question keeps a question in its 'original' position, preventing it from being reordered during scrambling. This is helpful to keep introductory questions at the top of the assessment, or bonus questions at the bottom of the assessment.
1. Enable 'Scramble Questions' toggle on left-hand panel.
2. Locate the question you want to pin.
Click the 'Change Marking' button on the left-hand tab.
3. Enable the 'Pin at Question X' toggle. A pin icon will appear next to the selected question to indicate that it will remain fixed during scrambling.
To unpin a question, disable the 'Pin at Question X' toggle. The pin icon will disappear.
Pin Answer Order
Pinning Answer Options keeps all answer choices within a question in their 'original' position. This is helpful when answer options are listed in a logical order (for example, from smallest to largest) or answers need to be in a specific position (for example 'both B and C').
1. Enable 'Scramble Answers' toggle on left-hand panel.
2. Locate the question containing the answer options you want to pin.
Click the 'Change Marking' button on the left-hand tab.
3. Enable the 'Pin answer order' toggle. A pin icon will appear next to all answer options within the question to indicate that they will remain fixed during scrambling.
To unpin answer options, disable the 'Pin answer order' toggle. The pin icons will disappear.
Smart Answer Pinning Detection
Akindi automatically protects certain answer options from scrambling to maintain question integrity:
"All of the above" / "All the above"
"None of the above"
True/False questions
When these answers are detected, you'll see a small pin icon next to them indicating they'll remain in their fixed position even when answer scrambling is enabled.
Scrambling Question Groups
π‘ How to Create Question Groups
Visit our full Question Group Guide to learn how to import and group related questions together around shared information, images, or tables.
When 'Scramble Questions' is enabled, the default behaviour for question groups is:
Questions are scrambled amongst the group: Questions stay together, but are randomize amongst themselves.
AND the group is scrambled across the assessment: The entire group moves to different positions relative to other questions and groups.
Pin Group Order to prevent questions within a group from scrambling
Pin Group Order locks the sequence of questions within a group so the questions always appear in the same order across all versions.
The group itself will still move to different positions in the assessment, but the questions inside maintain their original order relative to each other.
To keep questions within a question group from scrambling:
1. Enable 'Scramble Questions' toggle on left-hand panel.
2. Hover over question group preamble. Click Question Group Marking Options icon.
3. Enable 'Pin Group Order' toggle. Pin icons will appear next to each question to indicate that the questions within the group will not be scrambled.
Pin position of group
Pin Group Position locks the question group to a specific location in the assessment. The group will always appear at the same position across all versions, but questions within the group will still randomize amongst themselves.
To keep a question group from scrambling across the assessment:
1. Enable 'Scramble Questions' toggle on left-hand panel.
2. Hover over question group preamble. Click Question Group Marking Options icon.
3. Enable 'Pin at Question X' toggle. An pin icon will appear next to the question group preamble to indicate that the questions within the group will remain in the same position across all versions.
